Merry Christmas!!!

What a great day!!! I love Christmas and it has nothing to do with presents. I love the spirit the day puts you in and the love and cheer that is spread around, even to strangers. Volunteers get up early to make the day special for others. They pass out gifts, prepare food, say a kind word of praise, and are there in the present with those in need.

My Lord said the poor we would have with us always, but we can help them in little ways, by just being kind and thoughtful. To treat them with respect and remember they are someone’s child. Someday, it could be one of us in need of that care and attention.

Now, receiving presents is good. It is always nice to think someone care enough about you to put up with the pushing and shoving of the crowed malls or sit down and make that special gift with their own hands. I always loved the excitement of children as they tear the wrapping off and scream in delight at the gift they receive.

My children always woke up early to the smell of turkey in the oven, the sound of Christmas music playing, and cups of hot chocolate, while I prepared pancakes, bacon and eggs. I would watch while I cooked their breakfast as they eagerly opened presents. The floor would soon be covered in gift papers and the sounds of them running back and forward to thank me for their gifts and show them off to each other.

The greatest joy in the world is to see how happy you’ve made your children. Mine didn’t always receive a lot of gifts. Sometimes, we were lucky if they had a couple of gifts that they could share and one for each of them.

I always managed to have plenty of food for Christmas. Once breakfast was over, I would start cooking Christmas dinner. The turkey always went in the oven around midnight to cook slow. But the cake, main dishes, rolls, dressing, all were cooked on Christmas day.

During dinner, I would remind the kids why we celebrated Christmas and they would ask all kinds of questions about Jesus. I enjoyed answering these questions to the best of my ability.

Later, when I could get a minute alone I would thank God for all he had done for me and my family throughout the past year and the future. I have been blessed and I give thanks and all glory to God.

Remember, Jesus is the true reason and why I celebrate Christmas and I pray that you have a God blessed year and all your dreams become a reality.
Until next time, Merry Christmas!  lw
