Those We Love
Yesterday a friend and family
member underwent surgery for cancer. She has undergone chemo treatments and now,
surgery, but it may not be enough. We wait for further diagnosis.
As I tried to reassure her everything would work out, I
realized I had never said how much she meant to me and both our families. I
cried as I shared her importance to me and everyone she had come in contact
with and how much I love her as my friend, my confident, and her love of life.
It is a shame we as a people most times wait for a tragedy
to happen before we realize the value of having that individual in our life and
the difference they make by being a part of us. As we spoke, she was attempting
to comfort me.
On my return home I thought of the times we shared holidays
and other leisure times together, and you know what, she always had a smile on
her face and a kind word for everyone. On those rare occasions she became upset
about something, it never lasted long. She is not the kind of person to hold a
grudge or become vindictive.
Of course, her family and friends are an exception. Don’t
ever say or do anything to hurt her family or close friends because the tiger
she controls will rear its head and you have a problem on your hand.
I am so proud she is a part of our family and even prouder
to call her friend. I believe she is a blessing for all of us. She has never bent
or wavered in her faith and trust in the Lord and I know she has shown all of
us how to be strong in the face of adversity. I am humbled by her courage,
faith, and strength.
If you have someone in your family or a friend you take for
granted because they are always willing to support you without reservations,
please, take the time to let them know how much you love and appreciate them.
Don’t let another day, another hour pass without letting them know how you
feel.
